Sensei David "Chuck" Hansen

We at Tiger Claw offer our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Sensei David “Chuck” Hansen, of Sundragon Martial Arts in Delaware. We worked closely with him to bring his series of instructional videos and nunchakus to you, and his pride in the quality of his work shone through. He was an inspiration to us all and will be sorely missed.

Sensei Chuck studied martial arts for over 20 years, training in Isshinryu, Wing Chun, Siamese Shaolin, and Jeet Kune Do, but ultimately chose to specialize in the nunchaku. He studied under Grandmaster Michael Burke of American Style Nunchaku. He founded the Underground Gung Fu Association, a Jeet Kune Do school, in the year 2000.

He is best known for creating the Sunchaku and Funchaku martial arts teaching programs and the Sundragon nunchaku designs. He also owned and operated Sundragon Bail Bonds in Delaware.

Elite Competition Kamas Featured in Black Belt.

“If you believe that lightweight weapons equal maximum speed, you’ll like the Elite Competition Kama from Tiger Claw. Under the flashy coating lies a wooden handle, and securely attached to one end is an unsharpened aluminum blade in either Traditional Style, or Phoenix Style. Total weight is just 6.5 ounces.”

“Christina Park, 27 and a third-degree black belt, tested four face shields at West Side Taekwondo in New York, where she is an instructor. Ranked by USA Taekwondo, one of the regional taekwondo organizations of the World Taekwondo Federation, she is a two-time national middleweight sparring champion and does not regularly use shields, only headgear. She preferred one-piece shields free of vented cutouts, which she said impeded her vision.

The favorite among those tested, this shield, attaches to all foam headgear. “I liked this design because the shield was one screen,” Ms. Park said, making her forward and peripheral vision “excellent.” The large opening across the bottom prevented fogging, she said.”

Tiger Claw to Sponsor Wushu Athletes

FREMONT, Calif.—Tiger Claw has been named the official sponsor of both the men’s and women’s U.S. Wushu National Team and the official martial arts supplier for the United States of America Wushu Kungfu Federation (USAWKF).

Both sponsorships will last until 2009, and will cover two major international modern wushu competitions to be held in Beijing, China: the 9th World Wushu Championships from Nov. 10-18, 2007 and the Wushu Tournament Beijing from Aug. 21-24, 2008. The Wushu Tournament Beijing will run concurrently with the Olympic Games.

Tiger Claw’s charitable brnach, the Tiger Claw Foundation, set up a special committee to promote modern wushu called the Friends of Wushu. The Friends of Wushu held a special fundraiser in August, 2002. The fundraiser collected $20,000 for the U.S. Olympic Wushu team. When the Olympic Committee denied wushu as an official sport, the funds were channeled to these other two international competitions.

The United States of America Wushu Kungfu Federation (USAWKF) is the official United States representative to the 114-member-nation International Wushu Federation (IWUF). As the official U.S. representative to IWUF, USAWKF selects teams to participate in the official World and Continental Wushu Championships.

Tiger Claw Elite Sport Uniform reviewed in Black Belt, March 2008.

“Modern Cut Uniform

Separating Tiger Claw’s Elite Sport Uniform from the rest of the pack is its smart design featuring short sleeves and pant legs, making it perfect for that 21st century look–or for hot weather. It’s made of a cotton/polyester fabric that’s woven in a diamond pattern.”
