Tiger Claw Sponsors U.S. Wushu National Teams
October 17, 2007, Fremont, California — Tiger Claw has been named the Official Sponsor of both the Men’s and Women’s U.S. Wushu National Team and the Official Martial Arts Supplier for the United States of America Wushu Kungfu Federation (USAWKF) . Both sponsorships will last until 2009. This will cover two major international modern wushu competitions that will be held in Beijing, China: the 9th World Wushu Championships from November 10-18, 2007 and the Wushu Tournament Beijing from August 21-24, 2008. The Wushu Tournament Beijing will run at the same time as the Olympic Games.
Tiger Claw’s charitable branch, the Tiger Claw Foundation, set up a special committee to promote modern wushu called the Friends of Wushu. The Friends of Wushu held a special fundraiser in August 2002 during the celebration of the 10 Year Anniversary of Kung Fu Tai Chi Magazine. Kung Fu Tai Chi is the largest English language magazine exclusively devoted to the Chinese martial arts. The fundraiser collected $20,000 for the U.S. Olympic Wushu Team. When the Olympic committee denied wushu as an official sport, the funds were channeled to these other two international competitions. Gigi Oh, chair of the Friends of Wushu and publisher of Kung Fu Tai Chi, comments, “We are all disappointed that wushu didn’t make it into the Olympics, but we’re still committed to the cause. I’m very happy that we can help support these great American athletes.”
The United States of America Wushu Kungfu Federation (USAWKF) is the official United States representative to the 114 member-nation International Wushu Federation (IWUF). As the official USA representative to IWUF, USAWKF selects teams to participate in the official World and Continental Wushu Championships. The mission of USAWKF is to organize the amateur sport of Wushu-Kungfu in the United States and to improve the quality of the sport, increase its popularity, and deliver its benefits to the people of the United States. The USAWKF was founded in 1993.
